Male Chauvinism refers to the belief that males are superior to females. In the 1960s it referred to the group of men who believe that women are inferior, speak to them as inferiors, or treat them negatively based solely upon their gender.

Male chauvinism is the source of destructive political and social structures, customs, and events that have brought untold misery on everyone it touches, except the chauvinist. Islamic terrorism, and terrorism more generally, is the most extreme example of the effects of male chauvinism. More moderate examples are dictatorships or fascist governments. Male chauvinism still exists even in the United States but in a lesser degree than in most places.

Our interest in this topic lies in legacy RSA in the era of apartheid. What we know for sure is that in legacy RSA, women were considered inferior to men. They were eliminated from any decision making roles, were never consulted on problems of politics, or even the health of the children. In the event that a child was injured, the men, not the women would decide their fate. Because men have an irrational belief in their superiority, this situation could lead to life long damage to limbs or to the bodies of children who might be stung by scorpions or other dangerous animals. The sheer absurdity of male chauvinism in RSA boggles the mind and requires a strong response, or wake up call, to this culture.

Men have no way of deciding what is best for children in general, and certainly not what is best for female children. Male and female brains are constructed differently, with the female brain being superior in a broad array of matters, particularly when it comes to balanced, even-handed judgment in a conflict. Equally important is the destructive effects on the female ego and self image that arises from male chauvinism. In order to assure complete submission to the male ego, men use their physical strength to intimidate and psychologically demoralize females. As children, this psychological assault can reduce female children to servile puppets that are unable to think for themselves. The result is that the female child's ego development is retarded. Quite commonly, they have an unnatural fear of authority and in competitive sports will easily submit to a player from a culture that cultivates the females self image and assertiveness.

Probably the best argument against male chauvinism is the that cultures that have existed that were based on the belief in male superiority. Among these are the fascist governments and dictatorships, and more currently, terrorist cultures. Taking RSA as an example, it is easy to see that the consequences of male chauvinism has been the root of much that one may metaphorically classify as 'evil'. Apartheid was a direct result of male chauvinism. The current political instability in RSA under the new RSA government which replaced apartheid, the level of rape, crime, and other maladies are also a direct consequences of the irrational belief that men have in their own superiority. What every white man in RSA must ask himself is " If their judgment was so superior, then why has their country been reduced to this sorry state?" This is a complicated situation that is, in part the result of apartheid, and in part to the fact that the new government is just as blind and chauvinistic as the apartheid government was. The responsibility in this matter from the apartheid government is the result of the white legacy government's lack of foresight in developing the human resources that naturally existed within Africa. To make this clearer, if the legacy RSA government had properly developed the black human resources rather than having brutally suppressed them, their country would be far less likely to be where it is today. On the other hand, the current chauvinistic government has a serious responsibility in the deplorable state of the country in their own right. The wrongs of the apartheid government cannot be used to justify and condone the horrors of the present government. I say that the ills of RSA today and not the responsibility of the current government because they hold the power to reform and repair the country and they are failing miserably in this respect. Once again we see the belief that men have in their superiority over women leading RSA toward a new potential disaster that could result in genocide toward the white minority in addition to genocide of blacks against blacks as we have seen in other African countries.

From a scientific perspective, there is no justification for male chauvinism. It is absurd, irrational, stupid, misguided, destructive, and irresponsible. Men without the moderating influence of women are always in danger of becoming savages. The insightful book, Lord of the Flies, could just as easily have been a portrayal of adult men acting in the absence of the moderating influences of women. Within the confines of a government, male chauvinists are capable of destroying the confidence and potential of half of the human resources, the females. In contrast, a nation that has a strong moderating influence from female participation has unlimited potential.

Looking forward, we can predict that every male chauvinist based government will eventually meet its demise and if the human race were to become dominated by a male chauvinist political system, humanity itself would be at risk of extinction.
